Michelle Obama finally breaks silence on divorce speculations

During a live recording of her new podcast at SXSW, former First Lady Michelle Obama shared insights on maintaining a positive outlook, and why she avoids reading online comments entirely.

Speaking at the March 13 taping of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, she reflected on the challenges of living under constant speculation and misinformation.

Joined by her older brother, Craig Robinson, Michelle highlighted how both she and former President Barack Obama have learned to move past negativity over the years.

One key strategy? Ignoring social media rumors. She firmly believes that engaging with online speculation can be damaging. “You cannot live through social media,” she said. “I don’t think I have ever once looked at a comment section, period.”

Addressing Rumors and Negativity

Michelle urged listeners to disengage from negativity and focus on real, meaningful discussions rather than getting caught up in internet gossip. She emphasized the importance of seeking out credible sources of information and staying grounded in reality.

“People always ask me and Barack, how did we stay hopeful, not just during the eight years in the White House, but even afterward?” she shared. “Because, let me tell you, there was a lot of negative energy flipping our way — a lot of rumors, a lot of gossip.”

Her remarks came amid a fresh wave of online speculation about the Obamas’ marriage. Social media chatter intensified after Barack Obama attended Donald Trump’s inauguration alone, sparking unfounded divorce rumors.

Some online users claimed the former president was seeking a change in his personal life, while others dismissed the speculation entirely.

While some critics fueled divorce theories, many supporters expressed their admiration for Michelle. In response to the rumors, Barack publicly reaffirmed his love for his wife.

On Valentine’s Day, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt tribute to Michelle, offering a stark contrast to the negative online narratives.

Despite the speculation, Michelle made a highly anticipated return to the public eye, shifting the conversation once again—this time to her appearance.

A New Podcast: The Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson Podcast

Days before her Austin appearance, Michelle announced the launch of her podcast, co-hosted with her brother Craig Robinson. In an Instagram post, she explained the inspiration behind the project, citing life’s many challenges, from work and family to aging parents and relationships.

“Craig is one of the people I turn to whenever I have anything on my mind,” she wrote. “He always has the insights, the wisdom, and the humor to get me through anything.”

The podcast aims to foster honest, engaging discussions featuring expert insights and special guests. While Michelle and Craig may not have all the answers, they hope to create meaningful conversations that resonate with listeners.

With this new endeavor, Michelle Obama continues to emphasize resilience, positivity, and the importance of staying above the noise—both online and in life.
