When deadly wildfires tore through California earlier this year, Zoë Kravitz found herself not just seeking safety, but accidentally damaging part of the $25 million home of one of her most famous friends: Taylor Swift.
And yes… it involved a snake, a bathroom, and a crowbar.
Taylor to the rescue
During a recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the High Fidelity star opened up about how Swift generously offered her Beverly Hills mansion as a safe haven for Zoë and her mom, Lisa Bonet, when the fires hit.
“We ended up having to stay there for about two weeks,” Kravitz said, calling the home “beautiful” and “something you want to preserve.”
Also tagging along? Bonet’s pet snake, Orpheus.
A “good houseguest” gone rogue
Kravitz admitted she always tries to leave places “better than I found them.” But this time, things took a sharp left.
As the mother-daughter duo was tidying up before leaving, Kravitz heard a call from upstairs. It was Bonet, crouched in a bathroom corner, looking very concerned.
Turns out, while washing her face, Bonet had briefly set Orpheus down. The snake slithered away into a small hole next to a banquette built into the wall.
What followed was a full-blown, panic-fueled rescue mission. “We’re ripping up the tile. We’re scratching the walls,” Kravitz confessed. “Completely destroyed Taylor’s bathroom.”
At one point, she faced the impossible: either destroy a piece of Swift’s historic home, or leave a snake behind.
“Is it about the snake in my house?”
Eventually, Swift’s house manager had to tear apart the banquette with a crowbar. Kravitz, horrified, offered to pay for repairs and begged for silence, hoping to fix everything before the pop star found out.
But Swift? Already knew.
“I remember calling her saying, ‘Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something,’” Kravitz recalled. “And she was like, ‘Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?’”
Her response? Classic Taylor. Unbothered, dry-witted, and totally in the loop.
Besties, albums, and a bathroom to forget
Despite the chaos, Kravitz joked that Swift should name her next album Orpheus. (For the record, it’s called The Life of a Showgirl.)
The two have been close friends for over a decade, growing even tighter in recent years. Kravitz attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop in London and has called the experience “crazy.”
“I mean, I’m not surprised,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “Taylor is scary talented at everything she does.”
And yes, Swift’s superstar energy doesn’t stop her from enjoying a post-show glass of wine and a burger with her inner circle, including Zoë.
Kravitz even collaborated on Swift’s Midnights album, co-writing “Karma” and “Lavender Haze,” and lending her vocals on the tracks.
