Kai Trump is sharing a rare glimpse into her relationship with her grandfather, President Donald Trump. And it’s centered around family, golf, and perseverance.
Appearing on Fox & Friends on Tuesday, July 15, the teenager opened up about how her grandfather has influenced her love of golf and taught her life lessons along the way.
“He taught me to just keep on working at it,” Kai told Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt.
“Honestly, I’ve gotten a lot better in past years with golf, but he really just [taught me] trying to keep on fighting and keep on practicing.”
For Kai, the connection goes beyond sports.
“I love playing golf… it’s something that we share, a special bond together.”
Family on and off the Course
President Trump has publicly praised Kai’s golf skills, calling her a “fantastic” player and predicting she’ll eventually beat him.
In a video from April, following Kai’s trip to UFC 314, Trump said:
“She’s doing really well, and she wins a lot of matches. And someday she’ll be able to beat her grandfather, but I’m not sure when that’ll be… it might be a long time.”
Golf has been a constant for the Trump family over the years, and Kai’s comments offered a more personal perspective on their shared hobby.
Social Media Reacts — With Criticism and Support
Following Kai’s interview, clips of her “special bond” remarks circulated on X (formerly Twitter), drawing mixed reactions.
Some users criticized President Trump, pointing to past reports alleging he has bent the rules during golf matches. Sportswriter Rick Reilly previously shared his personal experiences golfing with Trump in 2024, describing moments where Trump took extra shots and other unorthodox moves.
Trump’s representatives, however, denied Reilly’s claims at the time.
While online commentary included both jokes and criticism, others focused on Kai herself, praising her golf talent and composure during the interview.
A Grandfather–Granddaughter Connection in the Spotlight
Despite the noise on social media, Kai’s appearance on Fox & Friends highlighted a quieter side of President Trump, as a grandfather who shares time and traditions with his family.
For Kai, that bond isn’t about politics or headlines. It’s about practice, patience, and the game they both love.
“It’s something that we share,” she said simply.
“A special bond together.”
