President Donald Trump has declared the appointment of Sara Carter as the new Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).
In her role as the next Drug Czar, Sara will spearhead efforts to safeguard our nation and protect our youth from the devastating impact of drugs, as stated by Trump on Truth Social.
Carter expressed her gratitude to the president and conveyed her excitement about joining the administration when she shared Trump’s post on X. ‘It is a profound privilege to serve President Donald J. Trump and to be part of an administration dedicated to prioritizing America,’ Carter remarked. ‘The most valuable asset of America is its people, and it is our collective responsibility to contribute – I assure you that I will relentlessly advocate for this cause.’
As a journalist, Carter made significant contributions to Fox News, particularly focusing on the border during a time when immigration policies were more lenient under the Biden administration.
Due to the alarming levels of drug and human trafficking occurring, she advocated for more stringent border controls. In a message on X, Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee commended Carter, stating that the new drug czar would work diligently to ensure the safety of Americans, while also acknowledging Carter’s dedication to border issues.
Blackburn expressed, ‘Congratulations to @SaraCarterDC on her appointment as Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy! Sara possesses extensive knowledge regarding the border and the crisis it has engendered for drug trafficking. This situation has endangered the residents of Tennessee for far too long, but Sara will fight tirelessly as Drug Czar to protect our families.’
Lt. Chris Olivarez, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, extended his congratulations to Carter and commended her appointment, stating it was “beneficial for the nation.”
Congratulations, @SaraCarterDC! I sincerely value your friendship and the tremendous support you have provided to Texas over the years. This presents a remarkable opportunity for you to bring about change and assist numerous families who have suffered the loss of loved ones due to dangerous illegal drugs. This is a significant advancement for the nation,” he stated.
President Trump has proclaimed that America is ‘back’ as he reflects on his numerous achievements, some of which have sparked controversy, since assuming office two months ago.
Through a series of executive orders and initiatives, Trump has swiftly expanded his executive authority, challenged established government policies, and significantly reduced the size of the federal workforce during his second term as president, according to Fox News.
According to a report from Fox News, President Trump has enacted approximately 100 executive orders since his inauguration on January 20, a significantly higher frequency than that of any recent president during their initial weeks in office.
Despite the president’s assertion that ‘many positive developments are occurring,’ the latest polling data indicates that a considerable number of Americans do not share his optimistic perspective regarding his performance.
A Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted over the weekend of March 22–23 revealed that 46% of respondents expressed approval of Trump, while 51% believed he was not effectively leading the nation. This poll included responses from just over 1,000 adults nationwide.
It is important to note that the survey was primarily conducted prior to the controversy surrounding senior White House national security officials discussing sensitive operational details related to an impending U.S. military operation in Yemen via the messaging application Signal, which may have violated federal law.
Recent national surveys regarding the president’s approval ratings indicate that Trump’s ratings continue to be relatively low. Since the onset of his second term, when his average approval was in the low 50s and disapproval in the mid-40s, there has been a slight decline in his numbers.
Factors contributing to this decrease include economic concerns and apprehensions that Trump’s tariffs on key trading partners may exacerbate inflation. Throughout much of his presidency, former President Joe Biden’s approval ratings were notably affected by this significant issue.
According to a Fox News poll, 49% of respondents express agreement with the president, reflecting the same approval level Trump achieved at his peak in Fox News polls in April 2020, towards the conclusion of his first term.
This figure represents a six-point increase compared to his approval rating at this time during his first term (43% approval in March 2017). Most polls indicated that Trump’s approval ratings were predominantly negative throughout his first term.
It is important to maintain perspective regarding these figures. Currently, the averages he is achieving are still greater than those recorded at any time during his initial presidency,” stated veteran Republican pollster Neil Newhouse in an interview with Fox News.
“Daron Shaw, a member of the Fox News Decision Team and a Republican collaborator on the Fox News Poll, emphasized that “the disparity is primarily due to the unification of the Republican base.”
“The party has fully rallied around him,” Shaw, a political science professor and chair at the University of Texas, remarked, noting that Trump’s unwavering support from the GOP is a stark contrast to the challenges he faced with some Republicans at the beginning of his first term. Newhouse also underscored that Trump’s Republican base remains firmly supportive of him.
