Trump Names Jeanine Pirro As New Interim US Attorney For DC

President Donald Trump has made yet another appointment that has caused a stir among Democrats.

On Thursday, the president declared the appointment of Judge Jeanine Pirro, co-host of the Fox News program ‘The Five,’ as the interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

I am delighted to inform you that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be designated as the interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” stated the president on Truth Social. “Jeanine possesses exceptional qualifications for this role and is regarded as one of the foremost District Attorneys in the history of New York State. She stands out as unparalleled. Congratulations to Jeanine!

Jeanine Pirro has been an exceptional asset to The Five for the past three years and has long been a cherished host within FOX News Media, significantly contributing to our achievements during her 14-year career. We extend our best wishes to her in her new position in Washington,” stated a spokesperson for the news organization.

This announcement followed Republican Senator Thom Tillis’s decision to block the confirmation of Ed Martin, the previous interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

The senator mentioned that he had met with the nominee to address some concerns; however, those concerns remained unresolved as he spoke to CNN reporter Manu Raju on Tuesday.

The senator stated, “At this juncture, I have communicated to the White House my lack of support for his nomination. Most of my apprehensions pertain to the events of January 6.

I believe that anyone who breached the perimeter should face imprisonment for a certain duration; whether that be 30 days or three years is open to discussion, but I have zero tolerance for anyone who unlawfully entered the building on January 6, which is likely the source of most of my concerns.

Furthermore, the senator noted that Martin felt some individuals prosecuted for offenses related to January 6, 2021, were subjected to excessive charges. It is imperative that we unequivocally acknowledge that the actions taken on January 6 were wrong.

These actions were not instigated or orchestrated by others to ensnare those individuals in legal trouble. They made a foolish choice and brought disgrace upon the United States by vandalizing the Capitol.”

Mr. Martin effectively articulated a point I believe to be valid, acknowledging that while some individuals may have faced excessive prosecution, there were approximately 200 to 300 cases that should not have received pardons. He continued, stating that if Mr. Martin were nominated as a U.S. attorney for any district other than the one where the events of January 6 occurred, he would likely endorse him; however, he cannot support him in this particular district.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who serves as the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, stated that Senator Tillis’s vote against the nomination effectively eliminates any possibility for Martin’s confirmation.

With Republicans holding a 12 to 10 majority on the Senate Judiciary Committee, if all Democrats cast a ‘no’ vote as expected, the outcome would result in a tie at 11 to 11, thereby halting the nomination process.

Senator Durbin stated that the decision was made last night to halt the progress of the background investigation. He noted that, in strict legal terms, the individual remains the interim U.S. attorney until the end of May, specifically the 20th or 21st, at which point the district court judge has the discretion to appoint someone to fill the interim position once the current individual concludes their term.

The senator remarked that the situation indicates internal issues within the organization. President Trump expressed on Truth Social that Martin’s confirmation is crucial.

He emphasized that, according to many, particularly Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Martin’s approval is vital for the necessary actions to be taken to save lives and restore health to America.

The president highlighted Ed’s passion for this cause, stating it surpasses that of many others he has encountered.

He concluded by asserting that they will swiftly reclaim the country, with Ed Martin playing a significant role in this endeavor, and he urged Republican Senators to commit to supporting Martin’s confirmation.
