2 People & Dog Dead After Small Plane Crashes in Simi Valley Neighborhood

On May 3, 2025, a small aircraft, specifically a Vans RV-10, tragically crashed into a residential neighborhood in Simi Valley, California, resulting in the deaths of the pilot, a passenger, and a dog that was on board. The plane had taken off from Lancaster and was heading to Camarillo at the time of the incident.

In the Wood Ranch neighborhood, a plane collided with the backyard and dining area of Arman and Armineh Hovakemian’s residence shortly after Arman had hurried inside with their dog. Fortunately, the couple emerged unscathed. Additionally, another home in proximity sustained damage.

Two dogs are still unaccounted for after fleeing amidst the turmoil. Observers reported that the aircraft was flying at a low altitude prior to the incident. Surveillance footage captures the plane maneuvering erratically before descending rapidly. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently conducting an investigation.

The investigation is anticipated to last over a year. First responders promptly managed to control the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among residents or firefighters. This event follows closely after a recent deadly small-plane accident in Minnesota, heightening concerns regarding aviation safety.
