Among the victims of the car-ramming incident at the Lapu-Lapu Day festival in Vancouver in April was costume designer Jenifer Darbellay, who was married to Hallmark actor Noel Johansen. Their children, a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, were also present at the festival with their parents.
Both Johansen and his daughter sustained injuries.
A few days after the tragic event, a visibly distressed Johansen, who was using crutches, expressed during a candlelight vigil, “The injury you see is insignificant compared to the pain in my heart, as my wife lost her life in the incident behind me.”
He remarked, “Throughout her life, she never acknowledged her own achievements. She did not consider herself significant; rather, she perceived herself as limited in her influence. “
I can assure you that she had a remarkable presence for all who knew her. Therefore, do not lead a small life; instead, strive to be grand, engage fully as a human being with all your capabilities, and kindly keep in mind those of us who have experienced this journey.
Michael Daingerfield Hall, a friend of the actor, initiated a GoFundMe campaign that has successfully garnered almost $170,000 towards its $200,000 target.
Hall characterized Darbellay as an “exceptionally considerate, warm-hearted, intelligent, fashionable, and artistic individual.”
The heartbroken actor, recognized for his roles in Psych, Supernatural, Fargo, and The Good Doctor, is most renowned for his performances in Hallmark films such as Chesapeake Shores, Harvest Love, Reunited at Christmas, and Garage Sale Mystery: All That Glitters, among others, struggled to hold back tears while honoring his deceased wife.
Kai-Ji Adam Lo, the individual responsible for the tragedy that resulted in the deaths of 11 festival attendees, has been apprehended and is facing eight counts of second-degree murder, with additional charges anticipated, according to officials.
Acting Police Chief Steve Rai stated that the individual was recognized by law enforcement under specific circumstances. He further noted that the individual had a considerable history of engagements with both police and healthcare professionals concerning mental health issues. However, Rai refrained from revealing whether the individual had any prior criminal record.
Yoseb Vardeh, the co-owner of the Bao Buns food truck, was present at the location and observed Kai-Ji Adam Lo driving at a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada expressed that the country was left in a state of shock, devastation, and heartbreak.
