Volodymyr Zelenskyhas offered to step down as Ukraine’s president if it means securing peace or securing NATO membership for his country.

His shocking remark comes as Donald Trump and Russia hold peace talks—without Kyiv at the table.

The Ukrainian president stated on Sunday: “I am ready to step down if it brings peace. Or trade it for NATO.”

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine’s security was his top priority, not holding onto power, adding that remaining president for a decade was never his “dream.”

His comments followed criticism from Donald Trump, who recently called him a “dictator” for refusing to hold elections—currently banned under martial law in Ukraine.

Zelensky made the bold statement during a press conference in Kyviv, adding that he is focused on Ukraine’s security now, not in 20 years, and he didn’t expect to be president for a decade.

Last week, there were reports that Ukraine may be forced to hold elections before Russia will agree to signing a peace deal, which Donald Trump is taking credit for, according to The Telegraph.

Trump said: “You’ve been there for three years … You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.”
