President Donald Trump called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease attacks on Kyiv, Ukraine, as the United States persists in its attempts to broker a peace agreement.
I am dissatisfied with the Russian attacks on Kyiv, deeming them unnecessary and poorly timed. Vladimir, cease these actions! Each week, 5,000 soldiers are losing their lives. It is imperative that we finalize a peace agreement,” Trump stated on the Truth Social platform.
The assault on Ukraine on Thursday resulted in at least 10 fatalities and over 90 injuries, including children, as reported by Ukrainian officials and Fox News.
On Easter, Trump conveyed hope that Russia and Ukraine might achieve a peace settlement this week, suggesting that once an agreement is reached, both countries could commence significant trade with the United States.
In a post dated April 11 on Truth Social, President Trump urged Russia to expedite efforts to conclude the war, voicing his exasperation with the protracted conflict, which he characterized as ‘pointless,’ and remarked on the excessive loss of life.
Officials from the Trump administration have characterized their conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin as constructive; however, a formal resolution to end the war, which has persisted since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, remains unattained.
We have presented a clear proposal to both Russia and Ukraine, and it is now their responsibility to respond affirmatively or for the United States to withdraw from the negotiations. We have undertaken significant diplomatic efforts and extensive groundwork,” Vance stated to the press.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed a similar message to reporters earlier this month, indicating that the Trump administration’s tolerance for the ongoing negotiations and the two conflicting parties is limited.
The statement reflected Trump’s comments from their strained meeting in February, where he informed Zelenskyy that he lacked the leverage to impose substantial demands in peace talks.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that some advancements have been achieved regarding a peace agreement, despite difficulties in communication with Washington, as reported by Reuters.
He underscored that Russia is committed to resolving the conflict while protecting its own interests.
Peskov also mentioned that Moscow is receptive to discussions with the United States, as further reported by Reuters.
